How bypass doors work
A sliding, or bypass, shower door has two panels that slide past each other on a track. One panel stays in place while the other moves, so nothing swings into the bathroom.
This makes bypass doors a practical fit for tub-and-shower combinations and for tight bathrooms where there is not room for a door to open outward.
Things to think about
You can only open part of the doorway at a time, because one panel is always in front of the other. The track needs occasional cleaning to keep the panels gliding smoothly.
Frameless bypass styles are available if you want fewer visible metal parts than a traditional framed slider.
